Organisations
Are you a member of a breakdown organisation?
Read on, some things you may find interesting. Could even save you a great deal of money.
Being a member of one of the many motoring breakdown organisations is highly recommended if you travel long distances, drive a wreck or are constantly on the verge of crashing. but if you stay local, have your car regularly serviced and drive safely then there is really not a lot of need, if you have relay cover and have broken down once in five years then you've probably wasted over £500, one local call out for assistance and 10 mile tow if needed will cost less than a tenth of that. Just keep our number handy and we can come to your assistance any where, any time.
The points and general terms listed below are selections from each companies published terms and conditions and although variations will be found between them, most companies liabilities are very much the same.
AA members
If you are an AA member and are
involved in an accident, you will be charged £104 by the AA for recovery of
your vehicle, any mileage. If you are 100 miles from home then it's not a
bad price but if you're only down the road or less than 60 miles from home it seems steep
compared to AB
Rescue & Recovery
If you're not an AA member then you'll be looking at closer to £200+ and
that'll get you a ten mile tow to a garage.
You will also be charged for extras like winching by the local AA agent. If you
put your car into a ditch, stuck on a muddy verge (accident or not) or roll your
car onto its roof or side then you'll receive hefty charges. Check your
handbook. your vehicle must be on the highway before the AA will recover it.

clause 13).
What is not covered

Clause13 - In the event that you require vehicle recovery following a road traffic accident, the AA can, if you require, provide this for you but will not be responsible for meeting the costs involved. If the AA does agree to provide recovery in these circumstances you will be responsible for, and required to pay, the AA's charges for this service (including, but not limited to, any charges relating to any specialist equipment used). In the event that, following a road traffic accident, you require one of the additional services available under Relay Plus (and you hold Relay Plus cover), the AA can arrange this for you but will not be responsible for any costs involved. You will, therefore, be required to pay on request any applicable charges. In regard to all matters referred to in this clause, you must give the AA, on request, any relevant information it reasonably requests.
Note
